The Sun City of South Africa

In the North West Province of South Africa, is situated the Sun City, a luxury casino resort. It shares boundaries with the Pilanesberg National Park. From Johannesburg it takes about 2 hours drive to reach this beautiful resort.

As a part of the Sun International group of properties, this resort was developed by the famous hotel tycoon Sol Kerzner. It was originally opened in the Bantustan of Bophuthatswana on 7th December 1979. Bophuthatswana was declared as an independent state by South Africa’s government. Therefore gambling was allowed here which was banned in South Africa. Due to various supporting factors Sun City became one of the most popular weekend and holiday destinations. ‘Sun City Super Bowl’ is the resort’s large auditorium which has a capacity of sitting 6230 people. Many famous musicians have performed at this place. Sun City was also surrounded by controversies in 1985. But Sun City regained its popularity and continued to flourish in 1994 when Bophuthatswana was re-incorporated in the new South Africa.

The resort has four hotels. Also there are popular time-sharing facilities known as "The Sun City Vacation Club". Other than these, Sun City has two 18 holes golf course of international standard.

Sun City is a good place to visit during your luxury African safari.
