The Kalahari is world’s biggest sand basin stretching 2,500 kilometers in South Africa. Although it doesn’t have a permanent water surface, it is well vegetated and has an ample variety of habitats.
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is world’s biggest game reserve but until recently has been closed for African safari to the public. This game reserve is a home to the best of untamed Africa. This reserve has a pristine beauty although it is remote, has harsh terrains and a rough climate. Only a completely self-sufficient traveler would succeed in going on an African safari tour into the reserve alone.
The CKGR was originally inhabited by the San Bushmen for 30,000 years. Their lifestyle was nomadic and simple. Most of them have now intermixed with other tribes and reside in villages at the reserve’s southern end. Their traditional lifestyle is changed. Most of the Bushmen now do the job of a guide.
The CKGR is one of the major game viewing areas in Botswana. The skies are clear blue filled with clouds. The cloud formations during the summer rains are magnificent. It is inhabited by a number of wild beasts like the lions, cheetahs, jackals and many others. In the CKGR you will also find a number of grazing animals on the grass plains and also thousands of reptiles, insects and scorpions.
